The strategy began with analysis of vehicular hierarchy, pedestrian routes, cycling tracks and jogging paths. These movement systems were considered alongside district identity, road hierarchy and destination prioritisation to establish a cognitive structure for the community.

Rather than using physical signage as the only source of orientation, the framework uses repeated spatial and visual cues to reinforce the organisation of the masterplan.

A comprehensive addressing framework was developed for districts, streets, buildings and villas. Villa numbering begins from a defined baseline, with odd and even numbers assigned consistently to opposite sides of the street.

Road numbering follows a grid logic aligned with Abu Dhabi’s Onwani guidelines. Destinations were also organised into primary, secondary and tertiary levels, progressing from city to community, district, street and building. This hierarchy informed physical sign types, message content and placement.

Individual districts use their own colour and pattern identities, drawing from the Al Ain landscape and the character assigned to each area. These visual differences provide another layer of spatial recognition alongside naming and addressing.

The approach allows district identity to operate as part of Wayfinding & Navigation rather than as a separate graphic treatment.
